A new hotel and residential building ensemble is to be built in one of the most attractive Berlin inner city locations, immediately on the North Bank of the river Spree, between Schillingbrücke and Oberbaumbrücke and adjacent to the famous East Side Gallery. Our design refers to the urban development of the surrounding flat buildings as well as to the planned high-rise buildings of the newly planned district at Postbahnhof and Mühlenstraße.HotelThe hotel building (162 rooms and 92 suites) parallel to the Stralauer Platz assumes a prominent role in the newly designed building complex. Playful changing window elements and the backlit frosted glass band result in a varied façade. At the East Side Park, an attractive new town square is created with an outside Café associated with the hotel. The recessed plaza maintains a respectful distance to the historic hinterland wall, wraps them at the same time and allows the hotel guests exclusive prospect. The reception and breakfast area, café and a bar are located in the spacious ground floor area. ResidentialTwo 8-storey building blocks running down to the river Spree as well as a partly attached 12-storey tower standing across it, are planned as residential buildings. Together, they offer space for 305 apartments. In between is a large, green living garden. Generously arranged trees, magnolias, bushes and lawns between the two buildings create a private area with high recreation quality. The outdoor areas are delineated from the waterfront by ground leaps. From each apartment one can look directly on the water or in the park. Laterally offset windows determine the design, however the flat façade of the hotel receives a different shape than the houses. All windows of the building Ensemble "stand" on balcony- or loggia plates or on window sills. This basic concept is related, but varies lively on the location and function of the facade.

The planned hotel and residential building is located on a busy street next to Alexanderplatz at central Berlin. The hotel brand is a "Hampton by Hilton“, the sophisticated budget brand of the Hilton Hotel Group. It is located on a wing at Otto-Braun-Straße, whereas the living area is situated on the wing at Mollstrasse. Both uses are seperated. The architecture of the building refers in its typology strongly to its surroundings with its large scale, massive buildings and its simple but present facades. The facade is made of white parapet and window hinges with partially perforated and corrugated metal cladding. The L-shaped building closes the block edge of Otto-Braun- and Mollstrasse. Between the neighboring buildings and the new construction a long, largely leafy inner area is created, which opens out to the street. Here a quiet place with amenity for the neighborhood is developed. It is nine-storeys high and divided into a largely glazed ground floor with partially enclosed areas and eight upper floors with hotels and residential use. In the basement, underground parking is provided.

The entrance to Berlin’s central district "Innenstadt Mitte / Alexanderplatz" is articulated by the designed building incorporating a 65 m tower. The building rests on a double storey stone plinth and builds up to the Berlin standard height of a city block. Out of this base, at its southwest corner, grows an elegant tower with an architectural cantilever. The 8-storey base of the building up to the height of the urban block edge is used as a hotel. There are 250 rooms and spacious public areas with banquet facilities at ground and first floor. The orientation of public uses to quiet Dircksenstrasse creates an urban street character for people to promenade with a high sojourn quality.

This large block contains 3 Hotels and 2 units housing apartments, partly serviced. The large scale typology of the building and the dynamic of it’s surroundings form the core theme of the design. The building is to be strengthened by its mass and has to reflect its current and future surrounding. This approach is the basis for our facade design. The different individual units get tied together to one large scale structure by a continuous use of materials and by horizontal bands creating a horizontal articulation that runs throughout the building block. The differing uses are expressed by varying designs of facade typologies. This expresses their internal structures and the level of comfort in relation to cost criteria. The types of facades also express the differing levels of accommodation values and are addressed to client target groups.A double storey base is indicated by cut outs with a special material, highlighting the welcoming entrances. Thereby, the abstraction and large scale appearance of the facade is kept, yet the entrances appear as design pieces within the structure.

Close to the Kurfürstendamm, the „H’Otello-Berlin” lies at the heart of Berlin’s pulsating City-West: With its lively mixture of cafés, bars, restaurants, galleries and shops the Savignyplatz has a particular appeal for the cosmopolitan visitor. The architecture picks up the urban situation, fits itself into the blocks beside the railway tracks, creating an evocative facade, which is highly visible from the Kurfürstendamm. All upper floors, which house the hotel rooms, have a facade, which expresses in design terms the individuality and liveliness of the changing residents.
