Just north of Alexanderplatz, one of the most important metropolitan places of Berlin a prominent building is currently being redeveloped. The area is characterized by monumental 11-storey buildings and a city structure going back to socialist urban planning principles. The project is part of the new masterplan for the Alexanderplatz dating from the year 2000. This continues the monumental massing, places tower blocks at Alexanderplatz and provides for narrowing of the existing road space through new buildings. These measures have their origin in the urban concept of the so-called "Plan for the City Centre".As part of this new urban concept a new building site was created on a public parking lot at the corner of Otto-Braun-Strasse and Mollstrasse. The building designed by us for a commercial and residential development will be attached to an existing apartment building, creating a new semi-public space in between.Due to a change of the owner, the original plan for an office and residential building was replaced in 2013 by a plan for a new „Hampton by Hilton“ hotel building with additional residential use on these grounds.
